"Doing International Business in Real Estate..."

By Nathan Booth

When working with international investors important issues to consider will be - Who's buying, where are they buying and what are they buying? In addition, cultural differences, language barriers, foreign currency exchange, differing expectations due to different business protocols and tax, financial implications make these transactions seem insurmountable. However, many REALTORS® are doing international business and reaping the rewards of this undeserved market.

Even though the transactions appear to be extremely difficult and exhausting they needn't be. The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) has provided a program of training that certifies REALTORS® to do international transactions. During the last decade NAR has trained more than 1,200 REALTORS® to become Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS).

The training enables participants to study diverse cultures and master international financial analysis of property purchased by foreign investors.

Additionally, NAR has provided networking opportunities with other countries and their related real estate counterparts. A visit to www.cipsnetwork.com will reveal the many locations and meetings available to general NAR membership.

Foreign national REALTORS® also attend the NAR conventions and in the past as many as 2,000 from more than 40 nations have attended the November annual meeting of NAR.

Last year alone foreign investors spent more than $44 billion dollars in foreign direct investment in real estate purchases within the USA. If you want to get involved, contact the NAR International Network via www.cipsnetwork.com site and sign up as soon as possible.
